Visiting families for in-home newborn photography sessions is my favorite part of my job as a Norcross Newborn Photographer.
There’s something so special about seeing a family in their natural element with their newest addition. Plus, being in your own home brings a flair to your images making them uniquely yours.
My goal when photographing you and your newborn is to make the process as stress-free as possible. So here are my quick tips to help you prepare for the day.
The best part of an in-home newborn session is that you don’t have to leave your house! As a Norcross Newborn Photographer, I know that can come with stress of its own. I’m here to tell you to take a deep breath, follow these simple guidelines and let the anxiety go.
It’s okay if your house looks like a tornado hit—that’s normal when you have a new baby. No deep cleaning necessary. Instead, focus on a quick tidy of the nursery (tossing burp clothes, bottles, breast pump parts, etc. into a covered bin or in another room so it’s out of sight) and we’ll go from there.
Natural light is what helps me get the glow that I love so much in my images, so open those shades and doors where you can.
Yes, I know it sounds counterproductive, but I promise it will yield the best results. If there isn’t enough natural light, I have a flash to help us emulate what we’re missing.

Whether you’re a first time mom, or this is your second, third, fourth, etc. you’re still in the thick of figuring out baby’s cues and a schedule isn’t even close to being on the table.
As a Norcross Newborn Photographer and a mom myself, I know all too well how unpredictable babies can be! While we will follow baby’s cues, there are a few things I recommend doing before I arrive to set us up for success during your in-home newborn photography session.
If you can, try to feed baby shortly before I arrive. This way we’ll have a decent window to get some great shots in before hunger strikes. Have another snack bottle ready just in case we need it.
After you do your pre-shoot feed, add a quick diaper change to the mix to make sure baby is fresh and clean to start. And it’s totally okay if we need to break for another one (or two!) during our session.
If you have any family heirloom items, clothes, or other special outfits you’d like to get pictures of baby in, have those clean and ready to go. I’ll also have a few swaddles in various soft colors if we need them.
